Mark Dion

Mark was a Democratic member of the Maine State Legislature from 2010 to 2018 winning elections both to the House of Representatives and the Senate.

His legislative experience includes tenure as the House Chair of the Joint Standing Committee of Criminal Justice and Public Safety and the Joint Standing Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology. His service also included appointments to the Advisory Commission on Legislative Re-Districting and the Maine-Canadian Legislative Advisory Commission. In the Senate, Mark served on both the Marijuana Legalization and Implementation Committee and the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. Mark was a candidate for the Democratic Gubernatorial nomination in 2018 where he lost in a seven way primary.

Prior to his legislative service, Mark was elected three times as the Sheriff for Cumberland County having previously retired from the City of Portland Police Department as Deputy Police Chief.

A practicing attorney and member of the Maine and Federal bar, Mark received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law; a master's degree in Human Services Administration from Antioch College and completion of the Senior Executive's Program in State and Local Government at Harvard University.
